Our bass instructors teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical styles on both electric and acoustic basses. Beginners work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and music theory. Each music lesson will challenge you with a new technique or method, and ends with something fun – such as your favorite riff or song.
We employ a variety of bass guitar method books based on individual student needs and preferences, and encourage students to bring smartphones or other devices to their lessons to learn their favorite tunes. Music lessons focus on fostering a lifelong love of music -- that's what bass guitar lessons are all about at Greenwich Arts Academy.
Our bass instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student's favorite type of music. Whether you're playing music in local bands, a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to the bass after many years, bass guitar lessons will set you on the path to achieving your musical aspirations.
We teach all styles, from rock, pop, jazz, and blues to metal, country and classical bass – on electric and acoustic basses.
Our bass instructors have received their education from prestigious institutions such as University of California at Berkeley (music dept), Berklee College of Music, Music For The Media, and University of California at Los Angeles (music dept). Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of the US and Europe and have over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience.
All of our bass teachers also play guitar (and piano), which is a huge advantage when explaining how (and why) chords move from one to the next. They also typically rock drums, which is essential for learning to lock bass patterns with the kick drum. Our bass instructors have unique teaching techniques, styles and musical philosophies -- which is an advantage for you when you have the opportunity to work with more than one music teacher.
Our bass teachers' range of knowledge is a big part of why our members love their sessions here in Stamford. They also understand that -- crucially -- an error in execution is an opportunity -- not a failure -- and they make sure young students don't get discouraged but rather empowered by their mistakes. An excellent teaching method, particularly if you are of a certain age and remember how music used to be taught...
Beginner bass guitar students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and music theory. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenge or music theory concept, and ends with something fun -- such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of bass method books, and encourage students to bring their smartphone or other device to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes.
Don't let the idea of "music theory" scare you -- it helps you hear your music more transparently, and 'program' your mind to process what you hear in new and interesting ways.
One of the most important aspects of learning to play bass guitar is getting your performance in sync with the drums -- this is why it such an advantage that all of our bass instructors also play drums.
Up for a challenge? Why not add piano or guitar lessons to your week -- these are the other instruments of the rhythm section of the band. Or maybe voice lessons -- then you can be lead singer, too!
The Academy offers acoustic and electric basses for student music lessons (for your convenience, students can use one of ours at their first lesson). But to practice at home, you will need a bass. As we are not an instrument retailer, our music teachers will guide you to shops that offer a variety of basses appropriate for beginners.

Absolutely! Every Fall and Spring, our students have the opportunity to perform in first-class venues. Unlike most of our competitors, we only charge a small participation fee per member, and we never make parents pay for tickets. Admission is free, so you can invite all your family and friends.
These are not your typical recitals, which you may recall as crisis moments from when you were a child, mom or dad! Students are encouraged to rehearse, and the performance is practiced so often it becomes routine. When it's time to perform, our members are ready, and steady. That's why we call it a 'concert' rather than a recital.
