Music FunTime offers unique and proven-effective preschool and young child music classes for children 18 months to 5 years of age. The structured, comprehensive curriculum incorporates music theory (reading staff music, rhythms, note values, time signatures, etc.) and application (playing rhythm instruments, keyboard, sing along, music appreciation, movement). It accesses children's cognition through their brain's 'play center,' using themed games, attractive visuals, and delightful auditory aids that make learning exciting and fun. It's been proven that kids who can grasp rhythmic cadence are much more likely to excel in mathematics. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Rhythmic concepts are inherently mathematical. Only the details are different.
Babies develop bonding and connection (and love) with their mothers through listening to and feeling her heartbeat in the womb. As their bio-processes develop, these are all rhythmically coordinated. For toddlers, teaching themselves to walk is a rhythmic activity. Children learn an enormous variety of early skills this way.
When we teach a child how to hear, visually recognize, and draw a whole note, they learn that a whole note is equal to four beats. A half note is two beats and a quarter note is one beat. Four quarter notes equal one whole note. With that, they are learning not just music, but math as well -- and grasping larger concepts and ideas, and applying them in other aspects of their lives. Which is exciting!
For example: when they learn four quarter notes equal one whole note, it's easier for them to understand that four quarts equal one whole gallon, and four quarters equal one whole dollar! This is a perfect way of creating real-world meaning from abstract concepts.
When you a give a child a chance to experience Music FunTime classes, artistically you open up a whole world of future possibilities. The preschool music program is a precursor for learning an instrument, joining band, orchestra or choir, etc -- because kids who can already read music are less likely to be intimidated by aspects of performance.
This confidence and ability to take part in other musical activities and meet challenges head-on will develop naturally as the kids grow and age-out of the classes. In the meantime, we exponentially increase their ability to learn, period.
Music FunTime continually adds new songs and new instruments over the course of its 96-week curriculum. (Of course, many little ones age-out long before the 96 weeks is up!) Classes and class activities are structured in what is known as a "spiral curricular format." This means children can join a session in progress at any time because the sessions are constantly reviewing.
It is important to mention that all class activities are scaled developmentally in real-time by the instructor -- this keeps all the children involved and keeps the classes exciting. Little ones can't wait to go to class each week! And family time at home becomes a lot more musical. :-)
Music FunTime enhances a child's educational development, social skills and creative cognition skills.
