Drum Lessons - Stamford

Playing drums brings joy to GAA members like Kyle
(ages
five and up
)

Overview

At Greenwich Arts Academy, our state-of-the-art drum lesson room is equipped with two Alesis drum kits for our members. Our instructors teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles of drumming, and challenge every drummer with technical exercises specifically designed to improve their speed and comfort.

Beginners need only their drumsticks and a notebook, and all that's needed for drilling at home is an inexpensive drum pad. Drummers are encouraged to bring in their favorite drum parts to learn. Many of our students are band members who perform in local clubs and churches.

Both kids and adults have access to drum instruction at GAA

What's the #1 reason to study drums at the Academy?

Our drum instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each member and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student's favorite type of music.

Whether you're playing in local bands, a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to the drums after many years, we'll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

What styles of drumming do you teach?

Our drum instructors teach all styles, from rock and metal to pop, jazz, funk, country, blues and even classical percussion.

How qualified are GAA's drum instructors?

Our drum faculty have received their education from prestigious institutions such as University of California at Berkeley (music dept), Berklee College of Music, Music For The Media, and University of California at Los Angeles (music dept). Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of the US and Europe and have over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience.

Our teachers' range of knowledge is a big part of why our members love their sessions here in Stamford. They also understand that -- crucially -- an error in execution is an opportunity, not a failure, and they make sure beginners don't get discouraged but rather empowered by their mistakes. An excellent teaching method, particularly if you are of a certain age and remember how music used to be taught...

What will I learn from drum lessons at the Academy?

Our instructors challenge our members with wide-ranging technical exercises and fundamental techniques designed to improve speed and comfort. Drum language can be complex, and the study of music theory is encouraged. Students can bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their lessons.

Do I need purchase a drum kit to learn the drums?

Definitely not. Our professional, soundproof drum lesson room is equipped with two different-sized Alesis kits for our membes. Just bring your drum sticks and a notebook. Beginners can practice at home with a drum pad and sticks for only $45.
